President’s Bio
Dr. D. Glen Cannon is the third president in the 35-year history of Gwinnett Technical College, Georgia’s second largest technical college. He assumed this leadership role in September of 2014. He has served in leadership roles at four other colleges in the Technical College System of Georgia.
Prior to assuming the presidency at Gwinnett Tech, Dr. Cannon was president of Chattahoochee Valley Community College in Phenix City, Alabama. Dr. Cannon has more than 30 years of experience in finance, operations, and leadership in higher education at Georgia technical colleges. He earned a bachelor’s degree in accounting from the West Georgia College (now University of West Georgia), a master’s of business administration from the Stetson School of Business (Mercer University), and a doctorate of education, specializing in occupational studies, from the University of Georgia. He also holds a Georgia C.P.A. license.
Dr. Cannon has led Gwinnett Tech to record growth with a 30% increase in enrollment since 2014. Through the combined missions of credit academic programs, adult education, and business and industry training, the College serves more than 22,000 students each year.
With the support of the Gwinnett Technical College Foundation, the college opened its Launch Pointe initiative in the spring of 2018. Launch Pointe is a collaborative effort to assist students with internships, apprenticeships and entrepreneurial education and support.
Dr. Cannon serves on the Board of Directors for the Greater North Fulton Chamber of Commerce and the Gwinnett Chamber of Commerce. He leads the College’s work with the Greater North Fulton Talent Coalition, Partnership Gwinnett, the Metro Atlanta Learn4Life initiative, as well as numerous other workforce and community service organizations.
